Public defender in Illinois faces felony eavesdropping charges
Union County public defender Patrick J. Cox of Anna and accomplice Melanie A. Teller of Cobden face formal charges filed July 12 for eavesdropping and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Cox allegedly aided a minor to tape a private conversation and showed how to hide the device while Teller allegedly transported the minor and reviewed the recording.

County Pound Faces Scrutiny Over Animal Conditions
Pinckneyville officials vet conditions at the county pound after a July 8 inspection by Officer Betty Harvel found feces and filth, a dead kitten, and inhumane cages. Commissioner Keene demands a clean, humane facility before any more animals are sent there. Peradotta says issues may be resolved, but Keene is to monitor and arrange alternatives if needed.
