SIU Carbondale chancellor Walter Wendler announced no staff layoffs for the upcoming fiscal year as the university reviews programs to preserve its core mission. He credited not filling 362 vacancies and retirements for avoiding cuts while promising emergency hiring only to protect essential operations.
The Carbondale Community High School building targets a December 16 completion with May 2003 04 opening if conditions allow.
