No arrests after union versus non-union pipeline clash
Investigators from Williamson County Sheriff and Illinois State Police pursue a union vs non-union altercation at a Lake of Egypt pipeline site along Sulphur Springs Road. About 50 workers overpowered guards Friday morning. four hospitalized, one shot in the leg. A .22 pistol was found in a ditch after tips. Duke Energy hired non union labor from out of area to oversee a 1300 foot Texas Eastern pipeline replacement.

Laboratory tests confirm a dead blue jay in Marion July 11 carried West Nile virus along with detections in blue jays found July 9 in Benton and June 17 in Carbondale and a crow found June 27 in Murphysboro. Since May 1, 42 infected birds have been found statewide and risk to humans remains low but present.
