Climbing veteran Marvin Teel climbs 100 foot ham radio tower

Mulkeytown resident Marvin Teel, 82, climbs a 100 foot ham radio antenna in Norman Swisher’s yard without a safety belt or net. In 20 years he has repaired or installed antennas, and his friend Swisher calls him capable, noting he would not attempt it at 20. Teel installed the tower in 2001 and remains unafraid of the height.

Greens warn Democrats over ballot challenge in Illinois

Counties get federal grant to fight meth

Four sheriffs from Gallatin Hamilton Hardin Pope and Saline counties joined by Harrisburg officials and Rep. John Shimkus announced a 148,048 COPS Methamphetamine Initiative grant. The Southeastern Illinois Planning Commission receives the funds to aid five southeastern Illinois counties with anti meth efforts.

Deer in Rural King shot after store intrusion in Marion

A rogue buck entered Rural King at 1301 W Enterprise Way in Marion and was euthanized after injuring itself during a 30 minute standoff with police. Store manager Clifton Lunsford reported broken glass and triggered sensors before officers confirmed a deer as the intruder. Mayor Robert Butler recalled similar wildlife incidents in town.
