Galileo Mission Nears Final Io Flyby At Jupiter
NASA reports Galileo will skim Io on its last major flyby offering clues on Io’s volcanic changes since 1979. After 33 orbits, radiation exposure exceeded design, propellant dwindles, and mission ends with a controlled deorbit into Jupiter. Mars Odyssey adjusts orbit with apoapsis at 280 miles and periapsis near the south pole as mapping plans refine toward 240 by 280 miles.
