SIU crushed Indiana State with a high offensive boards effort, marking the Salukis’ highest tally since a six board game against Saint Louis on Nov 15. Trey Letty led with 1 point contributions as SIU battled through a rough scoring night and ISU grabbed at least 10 second chance opportunities.
Mamadou Seck posted 16 points on 6 of 9 from the field and 6 of 6 at the line with 7 rebounds and 3 assists in 25 minutes. He emerged as SIU’s go to scorer down the stretch, hitting a key bucket and clutch free throws as Indiana State pressed a late comeback after a slow first half.
Key contributor Early posted 8 points and 24 minutes as a junior college transfer. He made a decisive late play grabbing Trey Setty's airball and scoring to give SIU a five point edge with 50 seconds left. He also produced three athletic blocks energizing the defense.
Trey Setty was credited with one assist in LIU's 73-67 win over Indiana State after his airball 3 was converted by Jeff Early. Setty's only dime came at 11 52 to Mamadou Seck for a paint jumper that put SIU up 52 49. Early swatted a season high three shots, while Daniels added three blocks as SIU totaled six, the most since November. Dwayne Lathan's near layup clanged off the rim in the first half.

SIU junior star Jewel Hampton eyes a potential NFL draft while enrolled with St. Vincent Sports Performance but retains a path to return for his senior season. SIU coach Dale Lennon notes the process remains uncertain as Hampton has not confirmed agent involvement or draft declaration. Hampton led the MVC with 17 rushing TDs last year and posted multiple 100 yard games while battling ACL injuries in prior seasons.
SIU opened the Saluki Open with J.C. Lambert winning the weight throw 74-04.25 to set MVC and school marks and earn an automatic NCAA qualifying mark. Jeneva McCall added an NCAA qualifying 77-11.50 for second, behind Brittany Riley. Love and Palacious led women and men in long jump, while Sidwell posted a PB in pole vault. Letty Letty hit a late 40-foot shot after coach Chris Lowery urged him to make a play, lifting SIU to a six-point win over Indiana State. Mamadou Seck led SIU with 16 points, while Jake Odum paced ISU with 15. The Salukis, 6-11, 3-3 MVC, edged ISU by holding the lead in the second half and closing with clutch free throws.
The Salukis won 73 points with a 51 percent shooting mark but squandered a strong first half with inconsistent offense. Poor shot choices and late turnovers allowed Indiana State to rally, and SIU missed too many free throws in the final 90 seconds, turning a comfortable win into a nail biter.
The Saluki defense produced three blocks by Jeff Early and three by Daniel Daniels while T J Lindsay totaled three steals. Indiana State kept the game tight with 13 offensive rebounds led by Jake Odum, as more consistent effort could have widened the gap.
SIU stayed dominant in stretches but failed to seal the big lead while Indiana State pressed. Trey Setty poured in 11 points in a brilliant first half, T J Lindsay hit three pointers, and Jeff Early energized the crowd as SIU earned a win despite a rough second half.
