Shawnee National Forest officials review a Peabody Energy land exchange proposal to enable further coal mining. The Forest Service will host an open house January 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Harrisburg to receive public comments at 50 Highway 145 South. Comments may be emailed or mailed to the Shawnee NF supervisor Hurston A. Nicholas.

Winter Weather Briefly Hits Illinois with Two Accidents
Illinois State Police District 13 reported two weather related crashes on Thursday with minor injuries. Bradley Wordtriede of Pinckneyville collided with a semitrailer driven by Aric Clinton in Washington County and was cited for failure to reduce speed. Kurt Kellenberger of Columbia left the road on Illinois 3 in Randolph County, struck a tree, and was cited for improper lane usage.
