Project Shield waste flagged in Cook County program
A federal inspector general report on the 45 million Project Shield program says mismanagement, flawed testing, and missing equipment hindered its ability to protect Cook County residents. It found 32 of 128 municipalities never received cameras, equipment failed in extreme temperatures, and records were incomplete, with calls for a federal probe. Authorities froze remaining funding last year and ended the program under Cook County officials.
