Hall of Fame prospects mix of greats and near-mers
The piece surveys this year's Hall of Fame ballot, highlighting Barry Larkin as a shoo-in while noting steroid era players Rafael Palmeiro and Mark McGwire would likely be inducted otherwise. It classifies Don Mattingly, Edgar Martinez and others as Hall of Very Good, lauds Jack Morris for a World Series performance, and comments on Lee Smith's saves record and the cases for Jeff Bagwell and Fred McGriff. It also mentions Tim Raines' elite base stealing and high OPS as a standout metric.
