Thebes Lake proposal could reshape regional water plan

SIU geographers unveil a billion dollar plan to dam Mississippi across Thebes and Cape Girardeau to create a 125 mile long 700 square mile lake feeding flood basins and boosting economy. The project would include navigational locks, a Cape Girardeau to Helena canal, flood control, and extensive land-water development worth about 450 to 750 million more in associated works.
