Fire protection bill advances in Illinois house vote
The measure, championed by House Speaker Michael Madigan, passed 87 to 27 after debate. It targets two township fire departments lacking taxing power and outlines potential tax increases approved by residents. Officials cited needs for disaster equipment, training, and replacing a 20 year old engine for Giant City canyon rescues. State Senator Luechtefeld also sponsored the bill awaiting the governor's signature.
