Marion slows Herrin water taps as lake rises after rainfall

Water levels reach their highest since August 5 with the city stopping taps to Herrin water supply for now. Marion has pumped over 250000 gallons daily of treated water from Herrin since October while drawing about 600000 gallons daily from the old Herrin City Lake. The old lake remains full and will be used until Marion lake spills over, after which only treated water may be shut off. Ground saturation and recent heavy snowfall are expected to help reach the spillway.
