Group fights to save Filipino community from demolition
In Stockton California advocates led by the Little Manila Foundation work to preserve remaining historic Filipino buildings after a 1970s freeway cut through the enclave. The effort mirrors wider moves along the West Coast to reclaim Filipinos long ignored in American history. The group recently secured a 4000 grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation to save the Emerald Restaurant the Rizal Social Club and a historic hotel.
