Wayne Bantrell aged 35 and Lash er Rice aged 24, both of Harrisburg, were fatally injured when Bantrell’s car ran off Route 1 south of Carmi at 2:50 am. Bantrell was killed instantly. Rice died at 11:30 am in a Carmi hospital. The car struck a concrete bridge abutment.
