The Associated Press reports a cold air outbreak driven by a low pressure system. Snow showers hit the Upper Midwest with up to three inches in Minnesota Michigan Wisconsin and Illinois while the Northeast saw freezing rain. Gusts reached 47 mph in Madison. Rain and a few thunderstorms extended from western New York to the central Gulf Coast and parts of the West saw snow showers. Temperatures ranged from 15 below in Idaho to 79 in Key West Florida.
