Minimum pension restored for current Social Security recipients
Conferees from the House and Senate agreed to restore the minimum Social Security benefit for current recipients at 122 dollars a month, effective before 1982. No new beneficiaries will receive the minimum after January 1982. Interfund borrowing among the three trust funds is allowed until January 1983 to keep the retirement fund afloat. Representative J. J. Pickle said the plan provides relief for low paid workers and pressures Congress to act on long term reforms. The full Senate and House must still vote.
