The Carbondale Chamber of Commerce cancels the Holiday Decorations Contest after the board agrees the community is confused about whether it is a lighting contest. The home decoration contest will return next year and rules will be released early to prevent confusion.
Sixty six Illinois community colleges name coordinators for the 1973-74 Student Achievement Recognition Program. Don Middleton and Thomas R. Burke are among Southern Illinois reps. Continental Bank of Chicago funds over 14 000 in awards and runs the program. Each campus selects two students for 100 prizes, then six district winners compete for 1000 finals prizes in April.
