Du Quoin students send clothing and gifts to Afghanistan soldiers
Du Quoin middle school teacher Pat Davis started a letter exchange with Staff Sgt. Aaron Kelley in Afghanistan. Her seventh graders collected 50 boxes of clothing and gifts, funded by a school fundraiser, and sent warm clothes to Afghan children and soldiers. Kelley later sent an American flag flown in Kabul to thank the students, who still display it daily. Distribution is now handled by Sgt. Steve McAlpin after Kelley’s transfer to Italy.
