Farmer fined for saving Monsanto soybeans near Metropolis
A federal jury in East St. Louis ordered Massac County farmer Eugene Stratemeyer to pay Monsanto Co. 16000 in damages for replanting Roundup Ready soybeans. Stratemeyer said he was unaware of the seed-use agreement and that marshals seized his crop. The case centers on patent protection and biotechnology law versus traditional farming practice.

Pet Santa Photo Event Raises Over 750 At Pinckneyville
A charity photo session at Lodge of the Four Paws in Pinckneyville drew about 150 pets for Santa portraits for a $5 donation. Photographer Gayle Vandiver and helper Casey Moran guided anxious dogs while Santa, played by Jim Edwards, interacted with animals to benefit Perry County Humane Society and Pilot Dog Inc. Proceeds exceeded last year’s $700, totaling over $750.

Carbondale Teens Arrested After Beveridge Street Burglary
Three Carbondale juveniles ages 14 15 and 16 were arrested after a Thanksgiving weekend burglary on 508 S Beveridge St. Items stolen from the home were found in their possession including a BB pistol. The 15 year old remained in custody at a juvenile facility while the 14 and 16 year olds were released to their parents.

Two Teens Hurt In Single Car Crash On Royalton Road
Jackson County deputies reported Tiffany J. Watts of Du Quoin and Kelly A. Partin of Vergennes injured in a Saturday afternoon single car crash on Royalton Road. Watts was extricated from the vehicle and both teens were transported to Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Leaders push regional youth program to change outcomes
Anne Studzinski of the Illinois Department of Human Services describes the State Youth Development Collaboration Demonstration Project as a developmental pilot in Carbondale and four other communities.
