A shopping center at the Rt 148 and Rt 18 intersection south of Herrin will be built as a pedestrian mall ringed by arcaded stores. J and D Associates of University City Missouri hold options on nearby property for a half mile long housing project. Joseph Davies, a developer, says the shoppers mall could be the first in the area.

Yates Resigns as Anna State Hospital Chief Nurse
Wilbert Yates of Murphysboro resigns Friday as chief nurse at Anna State Hospital. He will study for a master’s degree at St Xavier’s College under an educational grant. Yates has led the nursing service since June 15, 1958, and his wife will remain a nurse at the hospital. A farewell party was held by nursing service members.

A modified Z-shaped wall partitions four rooms around a central large fireplace with dual-use elements like the kitchen counter and stairs to maximize space. The 73 by 42 foot design includes a full basement with recreation and hobby rooms, cedar closet, storage, and laundry.
