Alfalfa Showed Varied Yields By Management And Climate
Research at Southern Illinois Carbondale and University of Illinois from 1958 to 1962 found alfalfa yields depend on variety and climate. DuPuits and Vernal outperformed Buffalo and Ranger, with 5 ton per acre averages under hay and pasture schedules. Orchard grass in mixtures reduced frost heaving and weed growth, while pasture schedules favored DuPuits.
