Verizon workers end strike but contract talks continue
About 45,000 striking Verizon employees return to work after a two week stoppage in the landline division across nine states. The sides agree to narrow issues and set a process for renegotiation, while health care, pensions, and work rules remain contentious. The union says Verizon seeks pension freezes and switch to a higher cost non union plan, while Verizon argues market conditions require updated terms. The walkout involved 35,000 Communications Workers of America and 10,000 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers members.
