Bulletin bailout saves aging Philadelphia paper from closure
The Bulletin, 134 years old, avoided shutdown as eight unions agreed to $4.9 million in concessions and new owner investment. The deal cuts pay and trims staff, aiming to save $6.3 million annually, with 100 union and 63 nonunion workers laid off. Charter Corp may inject up to $30 million over four years to stabilize the paper.

Tax cuts may spell relief for American wage earners
The 1981 federal tax law introduces broad breaks beyond the rate cuts. It lowers top rates for high earners, expands child care credits, raises charitable deduction limits, broadens home sale incentives, and offers a new foreign income exclusion. By 1984 the rate structure drops to a maximum 50 percent, with phased reductions and indexing to inflation starting 1985.
