Saline County mine siege as protesters burn vehicles
Thousands of union coal miners march from Galatia to a Kerr McGee mine site east of town in northwest Saline County. Rioters burn two construction vehicles and uproot fence sections while Illinois State Police deploy riot gear and helicopters to reclaim the site. The mass action halts virtually all other Illinois coal mine operations in a show of solidarity with the Galatia rally.
