Head Start viewed as more than child care by SIUC professor

SIUC assistant professor Stacy D. Thompson of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction says Head Start is inclusive and federally funded, aiding child care before noting private centers suffer from funding gaps. She collaborated with Oklahoma educators on 11 Tulsa region focus groups to study needs. The findings argue for greater government investment to retain licensed caregivers, centers, materials, and agricultural meal programs, published in Early Education and Development.
