Steer disqualified for drugs at Illinois State Fair

Illinois Agriculture officials disqualified Mongo, a 1,294 pound steer ridden by 14 year old Whitney Gray, from the Junior Grand Champion title after a positive test for Bonamine Paste. Gov. Blagojevich backed the decision as the Sale of Champions proceeded with Scooby, now Grand Champion, selling for 21,500.

Governor signs open meetings bill into law

Governor Rod Blagojevich signed a measure requiring local governments to record meetings closed to the public. Tapes would be available for judges if closed sessions violated rules. The law takes effect Jan 1 and limits topics to the stated reason for the meeting. Representatives Currie and Obama sponsored the bill.
