FAA trims hours at Williamson and Southern Illinois air towers
The FAA reduced control tower hours for Williamson County and Southern Illinois airports by two hours amid the nationwide air traffic controllers strike. Williamson tower now operates 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, while Southern Illinois follows the same schedule starting Monday. Controllers report a drop in daily operations from about 100 to 65 at Williamson and from 400–800 to 250–260 at Southern Illinois. The FAA considers closing Williamson tower but has not decided. Lights control remains in the tower per FAA directive.
