Illinois officials back plan to fund carp processing grant
State officials voice optimism over a 750000 grant to Schafer Fisheries of Savanna to buy equipment for processing Asian carp. The funds, part of the new budget, could be released within 45 days as the company aims to raise yearly carp output from about 2 million to 10 million pounds for processing and export, with possible domestic uses also discussed.
