Water grants aid Southern Illinois towns aging systems
The DRA program backed by Congress funds upgrades in Illinois with coordination by the Governor's Office and regional planning bodies including the Greater Egypt Planning Commission. Ashmore thanks partners like Dr. Corey Wiggins and Gov. Pritzker, noting the effort enabled water main replacements and 2023 streetscape work in Lesser. Across the region, aging pipes trigger boil orders and shutdowns, underscoring the need for grants from DRA, Illinois EPA, or COVID relief to fund critical repairs.
