Farmland tax bill gains House approval in Illinois
The Illinois House Revenue Committee backed a bill to change farmland assessment for tax purposes. Sponsor Rep. Larry Stuffle estimated the new formula could lift total farm assessments by about $500 million from last year, about nine percent, but still lower than under the old method. He warned the reform may cut state school aid by roughly $13 million and proposed a net return based assessment with advisory committees. 1981 assessments would be capped so no per acre change exceeds $30.
