Spring Clean Up Day shifts HQ to Attucks Park in Carbondale
KFEP executive Kris Schachel announces April 20 Spring Clean Up and Recycling Day with a new Attucks Park headquarters. Schnucks supplies snacks, live music by mie begins at 11, and the first 300 volunteers get recycled cotton T shirts. Prizes awarded by group size and weight of recyclables. Willisville trustees fill board seats and plan park benefit show
Willisville approves a state grant for sewer improvements and plans a benefit car show at the park to fund the parks and recreation fund. The event will feature prizes, food, bands, and more. Larry DeSpain is hired part time as an animal control officer with village insurance. Cleanup days are not sponsored this year due to trash haulers handling pickups. Black Student Logan College leaders organize community service effort
The Black Student Association at John A. Logan College led a Saturday volunteer project at the Erma C. Hayes Center in Carbondale with yard cleanup clothing sorting and room painting. Members ranging from 15 to 25 participated while Carl Jenkins joined as a guest painter and emphasized that small efforts matter.
