Subcommittee backs coal gas plant funding defeat
The Interior Subcommittee defeated Reagan's plan to cut 45 million for the Perry County coal gasification project in the 1981 budget by a 5-3 party line vote. It then approved moving the funding to 1982, effectively stalling construction while keeping options open. Simon aides expect full committee action and potential talks with Illinois Coal Gasification Group and Synthetic Fuels Corporation officials.
