Salem reports rising interest in the May 21 primaries with 343 slogans and nine tax and appropriation measures on the ballot. S Montague arrived from near Sixes with a large placer nugget valued at six dollars and twenty five cents per ounce, claimed as the largest found in the lower Sixes placer.
