Street Dance Boosts Fire Fund On Fifth Street

Local fire brigade held a Saturday street dance between the Post Office and City Hall to raise funds. The Bowers orchestra provided music as a good crowd attended and the event dried and warmed by sun. Net proceeds amounted to about $50.

The presidential party touring the West faced a deadly accident when their car toppled from an embankment killing Thomas F Daw son from Colorado and Sumner Curtis of Washington DC along with Thomas French. Donald Craig survived with injuries while the tour continued through Utah and Idaho destinations including Salt Lake City Ogden valley Pocatello and Idaho Falls.

Chapter entertains Elgin OES hosts Coquille guests

Elgin Chapter No 24 OES entertained Beulah Chapter No 6 of Coquille and other Masonic friends. About 100 attended a night of card playing and dancing with Scotch bloom decorations, piano banjo and drums providing music, and light refreshments served.

George Everett Johnson was born June 10 1923 to Mr and Mrs George L Johnson and died June 20 1923. Funeral services were held June 21 1923 with Elder Thomas Barklow officiating at Norway Cemetery.

Infant dies after birth in Powers camp area

Infant child of Mr and Mrs Harrison Hayes died shortly after birth on June 21 1923. Services were held at the chapel with Elder Thomas Barklow officiating and burial followed at Norway Cemetery on June 22.
