Myrtle Point Joins State Chamber Drive for Tourism Fund

The Oregon State Chamber of Commerce tourism campaign opened in Myrtle Point to raise a local quota of 398 dollars. Portland figures W L Miller and F M Kerrick helped organize two committees at a midday banquet at the Tourist Inn. The drive aims to boost Oregon's appeal to visitors and investors alongside road and berry publicity efforts.

Bridge Unsafe for Heavy Traffic prompts county action

The Hoffman bridge over the Middle Fork south of town has been placarded unsafe for heavy traffic. County officials are urged to act quickly to make it safe. The road from Norway depot to the store is also in danger and vital to the timber industry, risking payroll cuts and progress if neglected. Bebe L. E. Brown, once in general merchandise, was in town meeting old friends and business.

Court Urges paving Coquille to Myrtle Point highway plan

The county court and Myrtle Point commercial club press the state highway commission to build a surface road from Coquille to Myrtle Point similar to the Marshfield Caquille project rather than macadamizing. They seek bids for 4000 cubic yards of gravel for two miles north from Coquille to ward Fairview to be laid nine feet wide and usable year round. Delivery soon after July 10 with maintenance until completion. court plans a site visit to North Fork and Gravel Ford. Local Chau tauqua dissatisfaction noted.

IXPROVYE PHONE SERVICE EXPANSION IN COOS COUNTY

Superintendent E W Gates of Coes and Curry Telephone indicates a $10000 upgrade in service. New toll line between Marshfield and Coquille will consolidate with the county line line. A Myrtle Point to McKinley district line will be built to improve reliability along the new road. Ninety Portland trip tickets sold for Shriner and Rose Festival travel, drawing riders from across southwestern Oregon.

Fire Quickly Quenches at Jennings Home on Seventh Street

An afternoon fire at the C O Jennings residence on Seventh street was stopped by quick neighbor action before the fire department arrived. Mrs E C Roberts and Mrs Morpin helped extinguish flames from an overheated electric iron, preventing spread despite a strong north wind. Dances at Oak pavilion accompanied by improved hall comforts were held during the fair.
