Fire drill schedule change announced by Fire Chief

Fire Chief Broderick announces drills will be held every Tuesday evening instead of Friday. The signal remains one short blast and is not a fire alarm. Public is warned not to mistake the signal for a fire.

School Board Election Sees Largest Attendance In 10 Years

Monday afternoon meeting reports 55 votes with budget passing nearly unanimously. E. J. Schneider elected director for a three year term, Claude H. Giles named clerk. Mrs. Guerin resigns, to be replaced at a future meeting. Myrtle Point to levy higher school tax this year, with broad support.

Fire Hydrants to Be Painted by City Volunteers

The Myrtle Point volunteer fire department will paint all city hydrants and trim grass around them. Some boys will skip drills to paint hydrants and maintain visibility for quick fire access.

Fire at Roberts and Tallon Camp Claims Timber Loss

Fire started at 10 A M Saturday June 14 near bunk houses and cook house. All camp workers responded, with Camp 6 men joining. Flames were brought under control late Saturday night though damage was unknown. believed limited to timber.

Knight Wins Case In Circuit Court Ruling

In Burrow vs Knight a jury ruled for the defendant over a December accident claim of reckless driving. The judge instructed the panel to disregard liquor allegations. Knight celebrated with supporters after the verdict. his attorney was Claud H. Giles with C F McKnight, while Sherwood of Coquille represented Burrow.

Mrs Endicott Hosts Weiner Roast For Local Girls

Mrs. Claude Endicott entertained a group of girls at a home gathering about a mile and a half from town. Attendees listed include Mrs. Lloyd Jarvis, Mrs. Claude Endicott, Mrs. Marie Ball, Emma Schneider, Melba Myers, Dorothy Miller, Hilda Carter, Annie Johnson and Vivian Anderson. all reported a very enjoyable time.

Bandit Robs Coquille Cafe After 11:30 P M Hold Up

A bandit held up Foster Bros Restaurant proprietor, a night officer, and Coos Bay Times editor Jack Guyton in Coquille Saturday night. He took about $19 from the till and $2 to $3 from the others, made no searches, and vanished. Authorities notified neighboring towns with description released.

Over sixty Schroeder relatives gathered at the old Judge Watson place in Coos City for a reunion and picnic. Many could not attend but those present enjoyed the event and expressed hope for a similar gathering in the future. Robbed of $75 While Asleep in Marshfield Hotel

J A Wilson, a logger working around Myrtle Point, was robbed of 75 dollars while asleep in the Greene hotel at Marshfield. A companion from Portland, W T Wilson, and another man were with him. Wilson had cashed a 75 dollar check from Pat Hennessey and believes the culprit may have seen the transaction and followed him to his room before the theft.
