Grand jury returns five indictments in swift term

The grand jury convened Monday and, by Tuesday afternoon, had reported five indictments. Henry Christensen of Marshfield is charged with non support and is out on bond. Lillian Wolfe and Mabel Murray of Powers face indictments for conducting a disorderly house. they were arrested weeks ago and released on $250 bonds. The judge discharged the grand jury for this term.

Marshfield Times Reports Deer Killing Charges

Frank Hyde and Roy Keiling were arrested by Deputy Wardens McDaniel and Adams for killing deer out of season near Powers. A search found a portion of a deer. Hyde pleaded guilty and was fined.

Fourth of July celebration plans in Eugene detailed

Committees outline tentative July Fourth activities in Eugene with a street concert by the Eugene Band, a Myrtle Point baseball game, five Coos and Curry Fair horse races, a 5:30 wrestling match featuring Ted Thye, dancing at the Oaks, and evening band music. Sunday features two baseball games, an aerial circus with Brives and Case, athletic events, and a band concert.

Mayor Schroeder announces a city clean-up from Monday morning June 20 through Saturday night June 25 under City Marshal Redel. A team will remove all unbenignable refuse and tin cans as thousands of visitors are expected for the upcoming celebration July 2 3 and 4.

Roseburg Myrtle Point Road Upgrade Under Study

Herbert Nunn state highway engineer and R A Booth state highway commissioner returned from Roseburg where they inspected the Roseburg Myrtle Point road and planned improvements. They drove to Camas Valley to review the route, with plans and specifications being prepared and building work likely to resume soon. Mrs Arthur Holden, formerly Miss Chloe Buell, visited Salem residents for a week.

Celebration insured against rain loss for Marshfield event

The celebration committee arranged insurance through George Co Huggins agency Marshfield to cover expenses if one tenth inch or more of rain falls from 7:00 a to 1:60 p m on each day of the hell This may be the first such policy in Coos county used for events like pageants concerts and crops during harvest with a United States weather bureau certificate as basis for adjusting any payout Mrs Lee Ray reportedly improving slowly after a period of illness.

North Bend Falls To Myrtle Point On Point Gap

Myrtle Point defeated North Bend 9 to 0 in a baseball game as Duffy and Sturdivant stood out on offense and defense. North Bend showed strong pitching but costly fielding let Myrtle Point tally nine runs on twelve hits while North Bend managed six hits. Umpires Wilson and Clinton officiated and Justice Zimmerman's proceeding followed the game with Keiling facing a forthcoming hearing in Curry County.
