Commercial Club Luncheon Talks Road Rules and County Plans

About thirty Commercial Club members met at the Tourist Inn for lunch to discuss community matters. They approved a committee to study road regulations for trucks, learned the County Court will enforce load limits and a 15 mph speed cap on loaded trucks, and heard about a road contract near Bridge to Remote. Representatives from Myrtle Point attended, and a future meeting with the women’s auxiliary was proposed to boost community spirit.

Sheriff Seizes Large Still in North Fork County

Sheriff Ellingson yesterday captured a large illicit still on the Meyers place by the North Fork, securing about two gallons of finished liquor and fifty gallons of mash. One arrest, a man named Ryder, was reported. rumors spoke of a second large still nearby. The outfit was so large a truck was needed to haul it, and the liquor was said to be of fair quality. Mr. and Mrs. Wolff of Marshfield visited the city yesterday, with Mrs. Wolff previously known as Mrs. Barry.

Myrtle Point Cannery Expands To Full Capacity This Season

Myrtle Point cannery buys all strawberries offered at six cents a pound and expects a heavier pack this year. The plant, a growing industry driver for fruit growing in the region, aims to boost local development more than larger canneries.

The old Adams mine will be reopened after leasing to E Harris who will operate it and pay a coal royalty. Two young men and moonshine caused a street disturbance yesterday. one gave $25 and the other $10 to the city treasury as a result. The Presbyterian church Children Day program was well presented with notable piano and recitation talents. Vivian Anderson aided the event with her class, and Emery Bros. remains busy delivering reliable ad services to local customers.

The Celebration committee previews the Goddess of Liberty contest with many contestants already progressing in the campaign. Votes are on sale at stations for ten cents per hundred, promising a fast finish as residents choose the city’s most popular young lady.

Chautauqua Meeting Highlights Myrtle Point Spirit

A Chautauqua gathering at the City hall drew strong interest with Frank L. Smith of Ellison-White praising Myrtle Point as fifth among 600 towns. Officers were elected, committees named, and plans to improve grounds and erect playground equipment advanced.
