Cedar Lumber Mill Closed Yesterday

Attachment proceedings were served on C F Douglas of the Cedar Lumber Company. Roy Garrett seeks 1800 and F C Endicott 400 for logs with several labor liens filed by employees. Coach and Hackett linked in Richert’s action, but they claim error. The Myrtle Point Mill & Lbr Co operated this mill which shut down about a year ago, leaving workers idle.

Dairymen vote rejects liquidation of league

The Oregon Dairymen's League voting 626 to 385 failed to reach the two thirds needed to disband. Directors will consider action in ten days, with more votes possible. About 1,500 of over 3,000 members cast ballots amid persistent division on the plan to liquidate. Secretary Treasurer J. H. Mackie outlined the league's November 30 financials and argued liquidation was necessary to meet obligations and pools.

Albert Barklow born June 22 1855 in Stephenson County Illinois died at his home near Myrtle Point Oregon November 30 1921 aged 66 years 5 months 8 days He moved from Duncan Iowa to Oregon in 1872 and endured a long pioneer journey with his family He left fourteen children from two marriages with relatives and many friends left to mourn his passing He joined the Church of the Brethren and remained a member Peace be to his ashes

Open Oregon's Front Door to Roosevelt Memorial Coast Highway

At Marshfield December 1 2 the Roosevelt Memorial Coast Highway Association vows to press for a coast wide road from California to the Columbia River with three million dollars in federal Good Roads funds. Coos County levies two cents per capita to raise about 450 dollars. funds to be collected by local representatives and sent to C W Parker secretary Marshfield Chamber of Commerce for accountability.

Moonshine Plant Found On Ranch Near Gravel Ford

Sheriff Ellingsen Deputy Sheriff Sam Malehorn and Constable Redell raided Roy Shull s ranch near Gravel Ford seven miles from the city. They seized a 25 gallon still an oil stove mash and other apparatus. Shull pled guilty before Justice J J Stanley to the liquor raid and was fined 500 with jail time suspended pending payment. Officers destroyed the found paraphernalia.

Postmaster General Hays to Review Norway Post Office Service

In a December 1, 1921 letter to Wilfrid R. Smith of the Southern Coos County American, Will H. Hays says Second Assistant Postmaster General E. H. Shaughnessy will investigate complaints of poor mail service for Norway Oregon subscribers. He thanks Smith for raising the issue.

James Russon Ships Cattle Carload to Portland

James Russon ships a carload of cattle to Portland Friday. James Hobson, who sent a trainload to Southern California, plans another carload to Portland tomorrow and then will assemble another train for export to California. The large cattle shipments suggest the region may need a new industry to replace dairying.

Grand Jury Indicts Fifteen in Coos County

The Coos county Grand Jury in special session returned fifteen indictments all against men either in custody or on bond. Named defendants include Clyde Shumaker taxi operator, Jack Hoover, Jas Haskinson, R A Annin, Anna Hackwood, Wallace Crouch, Myron Kilgore, and others for charges such as non support larceny by bailee and assault with dangerous weapon. Trials set for February term.

Fire alarm turns in Sunday morning at McCracken house

Fire broke out Sunday morning at the McCracken residence. The alarm was turned in promptly and firefighters arrived quickly. The pregnant occupants had already extinguished the blaze before the department arrived. no serious damage occurred.
