In Oscomen a barnyard thief posed as a buyer, sending farmers hundreds of letters offering eggs at higher prices. He urged immediate shipment and said checks would follow, a scheme that preyed on rural greed and led to thefts of thousands in goods.
King Solomon Sneed 44 dies at Jackson Park Hospital after his car crashes into a street car at Tand st and South Chicago Ave. Two male passengers, Archie Jackson 46 and Arthur Weary 41, both seriously or critically injured, were treated at Jackson Park and Cook County hospitals. Motorman Edward Fritsche 40 operated the street car.
Prominent Legionnaires paid final respects at funeral services for John H Stahl 45 of 8232 Vernon Ave who died suddenly of heart disease in Illinois Central hospital. A former Swift and Co manager in Hammond he was active in Chaos Legion circles and survived by widow Ann, sisters Eva and Mrs Walter Krause Elgin and brothers Robert James Toledo. Burial at Oak Woods Cemetery followed at LaIn's Chapel 316 W 63rd St.
July 1 is the entry deadline for the Miss Woodlawn contest with two weeks left to submit photos. The winner receives a week as official hostess at the new Woodlawn theater opening and a formal wardrobe plus services from Condos Beauty Shop and other sponsors. George N. Gollos announces entry facilitation for new contestants at Woodlawn and nearby theaters.
