Lions Donate Raincoats to East Side Patrol Boys
East Side Lions donated 47 raincoats to George Washington and Jane Addams school patrol boys. Twenty five were given to Washington principal Thomas Coffey and 22 to Addams principal Anna M. Penn. Several Lions and patrol leaders joined in the presentation. Permanent Auto Plates Proposed for Illinois Cars
A bill in Springfield would issue permanent plates with up to six characters using letters and digits. The plan includes annual decals, county name, and expiration month on the plate to curb year end demand and improve readibility for police. The 18th annual Bowen High School music festival features over 400 students and runs today and tomorrow at 8 pm in the school auditorium located at 2710 E. 89th St. Dr. Hildegarde Romberg, the principal, will give the opening address. Participating groups include the a cappella choir mixed chorus girls chorus orchestra and band with instrumental and vocal solos.

Absence Of Pool Sparks Fight Over Harlan High Plan
Ground was broken Monday for John Marshall Harlan High School at E 96th Place and S Michigan Avenue amid protest by ten civic groups forming the Far South Central Citizens School committee. They oppose eliminating a swimming pool from the $3.25 million project. The board cut the pool to meet budget, a decision public about four weeks earlier.
