A lightning bolt hit a three story stone building at 6506 Kimbark avenue causing a fire on a third floor room. Fifty residents evacuated. no injuries reported. Cornice fragments damaged a nearby two story building at 6508 Kimbark. Damages estimated at 350 to the apartment and 500 to the building.

Woodlawn police search for four gunmen who early Monday morning robbed Joseph Higgins and his wife Claire at their office 808 E. 64th St. They took between 2500 and 3000 dollars from the safe and 120 dollars from Mrs Higgins after forcing Higgins to reopen the safe. The couple were locked in a storeroom while the bandits fled.

Draft boards to be set up across Chicago area
Eighteen draft boards with 90 volunteers will operate in three central offices south of Garfield boulevard to register men aged 18 to 25 for 21 months of service under the new draft law.
