Elisha W. Brown, grandson of James and Mrs Gillett, of South Haven and Battle Creek, died after a playmate shot him with a .22 rifle. Jack Roth fired, believing the gun unloaded. Elisha died at Nichols hospital after hours of effort. funeral held at grandparents home. The family appeals for gun safety and warns parents that firearms are for adults only.

A large Sunday wave on the south pier overwhelmed several sightseers as it rose higher than the others. One young man narrowly escaped being washed off the pier while others were knocked down and soaked, with many drenched through and through.
Man Arrested For Public Intoxication After Chicago Trip
J Smith was arrested Sunday afternoon by Officer Noyes for intoxication in public. He came from Chicago on a boat and possessed a jag which led to the arrest. Arraigned before Justice Cady, he pleaded guilty and faced a $10 fine plus $3.50 costs or ten days in jail. Unable to pay both, the sentence was suspended with costs paid. Smith works as a card and sign writer.

After July first, the Hatel Johnston will have a new landlord, C. H. Cunningham of Cincinnati, succeeding A. D. Williams. Williams moves with his family to Mrs. Wiley’s home on Michigan avenue for the summer while seeking a new hotel location near a college town. Williams says the family may remain in a college town, and their daughters Dwight and Beatrice have completed high school. The Williamses plan to maintain home living if a college-town business opens. they will be missed, as Mr. Williams is seen as a substantial local businessman. Cunningham, an experienced hotelman, will take over the Rand hotel in Cincinnati with his wife and daughter joining him once a flat is disposed of.

Steamer Pere Marquette No 5 Towed Into Port After Breakage
Twenty four miles from harbor on Sunday morning the Pere Marquette No 5 was disabled by a broken piston rod. The Petoskey, in her wake from Chicago, answered the distress and towed the crippled vessel to port. About 6:30 residents were awakened as the tow began, with 250 passengers largely unaware of the incident. Pere Marquette No 6 on the Kenosha to Chicago run was dispatched to tow No 5 to Manitowoc for repairs, and the line expected to resume course in about a week. The boats departed harbor around 10:30.

Fishing outing ends with mixed luck for five men
Marshall Hale Burr Rockwell George Leever Heinie Kagel and H A Parker fished in Parker's car yesterday. Rain and cold tested them but fires kept them warm and lunch for a dozen kept hunger at bay. They landed two black bass two speckled bass and two pickerel. Heinie Kagel suffered only a minor finger injury while hooking a finger instead of a fish.

Death of Curtiss George in Saugatuck
Curtiss George, brother of Mrs. R. R. Gleason, died Saturday evening after a brief illness in Saugatuck. Body arrived and resting at the Gleason home on Kalamazoo Street. Funeral Tuesday at 2:30 officiated by Rev C B Lester, Lake View cemetery burial. He leaves two sons, Harold and Raymond, in Battle Creek, his mother Mrs Harriet George of Tahata, Michigan, and two sisters Mrs George Albia of New York.

The event concluded with a campfire and bridge building indoors due to rain the next day a ship fire near Grand Haven destroyed the excursion steamer Manistee with insurance covering $50 000 and crew escaping into the water.
