Mayor Defines Rules for Using Fireworks in South Haven

South Haven mayor proclaims July 4 1907 fireworks allowed within city limits with limits. Fireworks rockets firecrackers roman candles permitted but cannot contain dynamite or explosives stronger than black powder. Cannon firecrackers toy pistols caps or blank cartridges barred. Citizens urged cooperation for safe Independence Day celebration.

Tanlay Boys Will Give Opening Party

The Dunkley Williams Co will open its dancing pavilion for the season next Thursday June 26, with the opening night’s proceeds donated to Troop A. Manager Parker has crews at work preparing, and the pavilion is expected to be as popular as last year.

Farewell Party For Verne Cleveland Held

About twenty five Methodist church youths and friends gathered at the north lake shore beach after meeting at the church at 7 30 pm. They spent the evening socializing and enjoying a marshmallow roast in farewell to Verne Cleveland who will spend the summer at Saugatuck.

Judge Denies Motion to Re-Open Triece Case

Judge DesVoignes denied City Attorney Donovan’s bid to reopen the Triece injunction case to admit newly discovered evidence. An opinion is expected to be filed shortly after the current term ends.

City Council Passes Four Ordinances at Special Meeting

Four ordinances approved to refund a $1,000 electric light bond and to divert fines from minor offenses into city treasury. One targets misdemeanors, another aims to curb vice and immorality, a third sets street and sidewalk conduct rules, and the fourth governs use of streets and posted structures with specific speed limits and placement rules. July 10 effective date. new bridge, park, and dock police appointments announced. registration for July 8 bonding election set for July 6 at the spring election location.

The city considers issuing bonds totaling 30000 to fund harbor improvements and attract new industries, similar to the Cable Nelson piano factory deal. Vote on primary change roils Michigan legislature

Lansing dispatch reports the senate boxing faction stalled a vote on removing the 40 percent clause from the primary law while Lieut Governor Kelley voted final passage to submit the issue to voters. The house followed with seven opposing votes as the measure moved to fall elections for constitutional convention delegates. Also reported is the death of J W Clarke at 294 Main Street from heart failure aged 42, with funeral arrangements set for the next afternoon.

Federation of Women's Clubs Meeting in Paw Paw

The annual Federation gathering in Paw Paw featured entertainment and a literary program. Ten Scott Club members attended with visitors from county clubs, including South Haven and Bangor. New officers and delegates were announced, with next year’s meeting planned in South Haven. A 273-woman dinner followed at the Presbyterian rink, and a reading from Justin McCarthy accompanied by musical numbers capped the program.

Mr Snyder to Open Stand on Hale Property

H W Snyder, long time operator of a Hale property stand at Dyckman Ave and North Shore Dr, returns to the city with plans to occupy the corner for another season. A Topeka college student, he funds part of expenses by vacation work and arrives from Albion with companion C Jacobs, also of Topeka.

Dredge Sparks Start Fire At Pavilion Roof

Sparks from the dredge set fire to the Dunkley Williams pavilion roof about 9 30 this forenoon. Dredge crew quickly used a fire hose and extinguished the blaze. The alarm prompted by the whistle and bell drew city fire units which wet the roof. damage was nominal a small hole burned in the roof.

The Ladies Aid Society of the Baptist church meets with Mrs. Lillian Eaton at Seven Gables on Friday afternoon June 21. Mrs. C. O. Monroe’s Congregational Sunday school class plans a beach picnic in Monroe Park next Friday afternoon. Boys gather near the stone cottage at 4 o clock for picnic supper and diversions.
