Judge Geo H. Durand Dies at 64 Near Flint
Judge Geo H. Durand of Flint died suddenly at his farm while in his carriage. The 64 year old native of Cobleskill New York had been a Democratic nominee for governor last fall but suffered an apoplectic attack. He later recovered enough to be driven about but died before reaching the farmhouse. Durand held roles as Flint council member mayor congressman Michigan Supreme Court chief justice and assistant US attorney.

Harbor Dredge Completes Channel Expansion to Harbor Edge
A government dredge finished a river project creating a channel from the bridge to 250 feet outside the harbor. Width ranges 30 to 120 feet, depth from 16 to 20 feet. Excavation includes white lake sand and silt, with snags and lumber. Two new guy cables are being installed. after two days at Dunkley-Williams Co. and one day at Bishop & Smith, the dredge heads to Saugatuck.

Young Lady Intervenes in Michigan Avenue Assault
On Sunday a man struck another on Michigan Avenue, with a second blow delivered after the young woman intervened. The couple moved on as the assailant avoided the woman. The altercation stemmed from disparaging remarks about a lady in which the attacker had an interest. No arrest reported. The incident is treated as assault and battery and worthy of legal punishment.

Two Boys Rescued After Sloop Capsize Off Harbor
At about 11 this forenoon two youths from Chicago and South Haven hired Donahue s Spray for a pleasure sail. Ignoring warnings, they ventured outside the harbor in rough Lake Michigan. The sloop capsized but the Life Saving crew and launches Phylidia Crescent Park and John A. Aliber rescued them within minutes. No injuries, craft bailed and brought to the pier.
