Romani Queen Operetta Delights City School Day Audience

Eighth grade pupils under Mrs Ella Allison Brown and Miss Elisabeth Pereue staged the operetta Romani Queen at the city opera house on Class Day. The tale follows Rosalie the Tyrolean queen captured by Romani dancers and her eventual reunion with her people aided by fairies. Readings highlighted strong singing, staging, and costuming with standout performances by Mise Eleanor Allaire as Rosalie and Marjorie Kipp as Mother Grunt amid lively ensembles and clever lighting effects.

Fourth of July money grows for city celebration

Over four hundred dollars have been pledged for the Fourth of July celebration with expected total near five hundred, enabling definite plans and committees at the Board of Trade meeting next Tuesday evening. Plans include Soldiers and Sailors monument unveiling, a living flag of children, an auto parade, an industrial parade, two games with teams from nearby towns and Chicago, a fireworks display, and all day music with two bands, plus a reported operetta and diplomas ceremony for the graduating class with many named students.

Kings and Common People Commencement Address

Prof W D Henderson of the University of Michigan gave the commencement address urging graduates to value simple, near-at-hand opportunities and to be kings of their own kingdoms through work, open eyes, and genuine self knowledge. He warned against education alone and urged living fully with faith, labor, and love, while emphasizing personal responsibility and the joy of the spoken word.

Kalamazoo River Baptists Hold 71st Anniversary

The Kalamazoo River Baptist Association marks its seventy first anniversary with a multi day program at the Kalamazoo Baptist church. Rev A Watson Brown of Marshall presides as moderator and Rev C B Lester is clerk. The agenda spans Monday through Wednesday with sermons, missionary reports, symposiums, and state mission addresses led by ministers including Rev W E Wight Rev B Frank Taber and Rev Joshua Roberts amid youth and music events by the association’s churches.

A car accident on Phoenix street injures E Love and injures his wife and granddaughter. Love, also known as Mr Dyer, suffered a head cut and a serious shoulder injury and will have an X-ray to assess damage. The couple’s daughter and husband were unharmed.

Webster's Dairy Lunch Opens at Center and Williams

Webster's Dairy Lunch and Refreshment parlors opened Saturday at the corner of Center and Williams Street. Carnations decorated the counter and tables as callers received bouquets in celebration. The well located place promises a cool, inviting retreat on hot summer days.
