First Bicycle Ordinance Arrest Noted in City

The first arrest of the summer for riding bicycles on sidewalks was made yesterday by Chief Sweet. The youth appeared before Judge Cady and paid a fine, settling the case. Chief Sweet issued a warning to deter further violations of the sidewalk riding ordinance.

Decoration Day Observances Shine in South Haven

Decoration Day in South Haven featured sunny weather, over seven hundred schoolchildren marching with veterans, and a first time water ceremony at the bridge with a floral float. Speakers included local representatives who spoke on wartime memories, with gratitude to Supt. McAlpine and teachers for student participation. The afternoon program at the Methodist church included prayers, honors for veterans, and a Gettysburg trip reminiscence.

Kalamazoo Choir Delivers Annual Outing Concert in South Haven

The First M. E. church choir of Kalamazoo directed by Mrs. Harry Russell Horton performed its third annual concert at the South Haven M. E. church. Soloists included Mrs. Horton, Miss Combs, Mr. Hoekstra, and Mr. Wallace, with Edna Van Brook praised for her flute obligato. Despite a preceding storm reducing attendance, the program featured choruses, quartet and sextet numbers, favorites, and a closing group with notable lighting effects, followed by social visits among hosts Capt. and Mrs. S. F. Hill and other residents.

Scott Club Swat the Fly Campaign Planned For Labor Day

Last night at the Gem a live animal show drew crowds with clever, well trained acts led by a notably young baby seal or similar creature estimated at thirteen days old as a standout feature in the program.
