Postmaster Geo H Myhan takes charge at South Haven replacing Delamere after her long service since the death of Chas Delamere. Myhan, longtime Republican supporter and local tannery operator, will be aided by S H Wilson as assistant postmaster. Office changes also affect chief clerk C V Prentice and the rest of the staff. Delamere and Lulu Delamere plan to move with their mother to West Palm Beach in about a month.

State Nursery for Forest Trees
The state forestry commission will establish a permanent nursery for the forest reserves in Roscom mon county for the propagation of trees best suited for planting in this state. This is a sensible move and the money expended in this work will be well invested. The state spends thousands of dollars every year for the propagating of fish to be distributed in the streams and lakes. Why should not the state also propagate trees and arrange for their distribution among the counties or legislative districts applying for them? If the proper trees could be secured from the state at the right season, the tree planting movement would assume larger proportions. The state nursery would not interfere with private enterprise, for very few private nurseries deal in the common forest or shade trees. They ran mostly to fruit and fancy stock.

Extraordinary prices for potatoes at Smithfield show
London, Dec. 14. A York firm sold four pounds of Eldorado potatoes for 3000 dollars, or 750 a pound, equaling about 1,680,000 dollars per ton. The seller refused 479 for a single potato. Ten tons of Northern Stars brought 3,000 at the Smithfield show.

Improvements to South Haven waterfront and new structures
Architect Worthington has nearly completed plans for a second building by the Improvement Co. west of the Colonial. The project includes an engine house, a first floor cafe, and a second story kitchen linked to the Colonial by a covered bridge. A brick drive and cement walk will separate it from a parallel small-store pavilion with a bridge. A docked pavilion will connect to a ship dock from Pere Marquette depot. J W Hare will build a farm house five miles north in spring. Girard plans a house on Superior Street with passers rooms.

Capt. J. C. Perene left this morning for Chicago. He will go directly to Newport News, where his launch has preceded him, and from which place he will make a tour of the coast. The Capt. and Mrs. Perene have spent the past few winters in the south, heretofore going down the Mississippi river. This season they will see new scenes.

New Resort Building Planned on Lake Street
J. C. Worthington announces plans for a large resort addition beside the Ionia place on Lake Street. The project will replace two cottages, add about 12 rooms and a dining room, with a 60 foot lake frontage and full length porches.
