In Athens Georgia an oak tree over 200 years old is said to own the land it stands on. The tree sits on land once owned by Col William H Jackson who reportedly left a deed transferring ownership to the tree upon his death.
Three of the Shah children fall ill with typhoid after their mother’s death. Waima Shah, oldest daughter, was taken to Saginaw by Miss McCarty and placed with friends. Waima is in the General Hospital receiving care. Lizzie Shuh, 7, was moved from Hartford with Dr. A Elgas to join her sister at the county farm and is recovering, though pale. Carrie, recently away, is doing well with a nurse and is expected to improve at home.
A. D. Prentice warns parents not to send children to reach school before the first bell as doors open only when the bell rings, avoiding early waiting at the buildings.

A fire last evening around seven at the Johnson and Gallagher building housing C E Combs restaurant and occupied offices caused smoke and water damage, with flames likely starting in a dish cupboard. Firefighters contained the blaze after about thirty minutes. one alarm prompted by odor of burning pine. No injuries reported. Insurance covered $1,500, with Landon separately insuring his goods for $500.

At last evening’s meeting the Christian Endeavor Society elected officers for the next six months. President Harry Beebe, Vice-President Miss Adele Fullenwider, Secretary Miss Charlotte Clark, and Treasurer Alfred Iddles were named.

Bangor Chapter of Royal Arch Masons hosted a county fraternal gathering with about sixty attendees. Guests from South Haven and Lawrence participated as Wm H Guest Geo L Cochran and Elmo J Edmonds were exalted to Royal Arch degree. A banquet followed at the Sebring House with visiting officers in attendance.
