About 75 men and a dozen teams toiled today for the marsh bee and made a big hole in the willows. The work will extend to Tuesday with another big dinner served at the rest room for the workers. Country toil ets contributed greatly and horses aided the effort as they dug out willows by the roots and burned the piles.
Rex and Pauline Prouty, children of Mr and Mrs A M Prouty, were successfully operated on Sunday for removal of adenoids at City Hospital. Dr Wilbur of Kalamazoo performed the procedure, assisted by Dr F C Penoyar of this city. They returned home this morning.
The Choral Union Series brings Mischa Elman to Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor on Monday evening December 13. The renowned violinist has completed five major tours with over 600 performances to date and promises to surpass past achievements on this sixth tour.
Representative Claude Kitchin of North Carolina, slated to lead the Democratic majority, opposes the President's preparedness program though not planning a fight. He said four fifths of Democrats oppose military preparedness, fear many will yield to please the President and do his will.
The Scott Club will enjoy a musical afternoon on Tuesday December 7 with Die Kammer Musik in charge of the program. Guests paying a ten cent fee may attend.
The Kibbie Sunday School will host a chicken pie dinner at the Grange hall in Kibbie on Friday evening December 10 starting at 6 o'clock. Invite friends and bring a good appetite.
The Sunshine Club will meet at the I. O. O. F. hall Wednesday afternoon. Acacia Chapter O E S will meet tonight for initiation. South Haven Camp M W A will hold its annual meeting and election of officers Tuesday evening December 7. The Sons of Veterans hold their annual meeting and election of officers Thursday evening December 9 with an oyster supper following.
St Andrew's Catholic church in Saginaw uses a former worship space to screen motion pictures. Rev Fr Henry P Maus has booked educational topical and comic films and started with two Sunday shows as an experiment.
The Young People's Society of St Pauls Lutheran met at 7 pm Sunday in the Indiana Ave school. Anna Winkel joined and the group approved a $20 donation to the church treasurer, their second this year. Christmas committees were named with John Fahning, Herman Hinz, Albert Filbrandt for the men and Eva Winkel, Albertina Filbrandt, Serena Reese, Ester Kasischke for the women. The annual meeting and officer elections are set for the first Sunday in January.
Seaside Temple 1, Pythian Sisters will again distribute Christmas gifts to needy homes. Instead of Santa Claus letters, they seek names from contacts with families in need. Donations of money clothing provisions toys fruit candy and conveyances are welcomed. Mrs. T. P. McKimmie chairs the committee. Seaside Temple has long supported this charitable effort.
The Woman's Missionary Circle of the Baptist church will meet Wednesday at 2 30 p.m. with Mrs C S Lester. Mrs F M Ross will be leader. A large attendance is desired.

Rev Hermann Obenhaus of the Chicago Theological Seminary preached at the Congregational church. He spoke on his past year teaching under Rev E A Paddock at Weiser Academy, now Idaho Industrial Institute head by Paddock, and recalled connections to South Haven. He knew the Rogers family from Superior Wisconsin. Rev Augustine Jones preached at Kalamazoo First Congregational Church where Rev W J Campbell recently resigned for Portland Maine. Mrs Jones joined him and will stay briefly with Miss Eva Carnes.
The Tribune reports a leaky metal pot disabled the linotype, forcing hand composition for over ten years. Readers are asked for indulgence for two or three days until repairs. F. W. Taylor left at noon for Chicago to obtain necessary repairs.
C F Hunt of South Haven Camp reports the Head Camp Directors approved a $3000 claim on the late E A Hartman policy, with the check to follow in days. Premiums paid over about 18 years totaled $413.30.
The Woman's Hospital Auxiliary elected officers at its annual meeting: President Mrs L G Rhodes First Vice President Miss Anna Robinson Second Vice President Mrs A D Moore Secretary Mrs M Emeterio Treasurer Mrs S M Johnson. Outgoing president Mrs J C Sweet thanks members for support and aid in undertakings. Tribune will publish a detailed year report later.
Marshall & Ilsey Bank sues W J Mooney and Lillie E Mooney to foreclose mortgage. Richard E Smethells sues Ida M Hazzard et al to construe a will. Ralph Travis appeals against Charles Showers. Freeman Johnson seeks divorce from Hazel B Johnson.
A list of individuals and partners obtaining marriage licenses, detailing ages and hometowns such as South Haven, Hartford, Gobleville, Lawrence, Lawton, and Oak Park Ill. Names include Benjamin Sanders and Grace Shafer, Lyle Hoyt and Anna Johnson, and many others, with varied ages from 16 to 65. The compilation reflects local clerical records of nuptial permissions.
The Ladies Aid of the M. E. Church will hold a bazaar December 9 10 and 11 at the first door south of Stillson's restaurant on Center Street. Lundies will be served at all hours and fresh baked goods will be for sale. Each church member is asked to donate an article and bring items Thursday morning. adv.
Payne Bazaar announces a one week only sale closing out all hat frames and trimmed hats at cost. The event emphasizes bargain prices as stocks are depleted. Customers are urged to visit during the limited period to take advantage of the closeout.
Residents of the Monk district plan a charity event at the school house Saturday evening December 11. The Old Maid's Convention aims to raise funds for refurbishing the Monk cemetery.
Capt. E. W. Thompson returned from interviews with military board members and Gen. Kirk at Ypsilanti. They refused his resignation and instructed him to continue recruiting until the annual inspection. Officials oppose dropping units and will allow time to build up strength. Thompson hopes a former member’s enlistment will boost numbers before the next federal inspection in February.
The Kammer Musik group met at Mrs. Harry Griffin’s home on Thursday afternoon to enjoy a Beethoven program. Performances included piano duets, vocal solos, piano solos, and readings on Beethoven’s life and operas. Participants included Mrs. J W Hardt, Mrs. W C Spencer, Miss Ora Leisestring, Mrs. Lillian M Eaton Voreal, Mrs. W G Packard, Miss Shoemaker, Mrs. M Emeterio, Mrs. J E Chandler, and Mrs. Viola McGregor.
The Cantata The Fairies of the Seasons will be performed by Hartman school children Monday evening in the high school auditorium. Enjoy bright songs and fancy marches. Admission ten and twenty cents.
